Sunday Jan 08, 2012
Happy New Year! Episode 12 of the 1 Player podcast is finally available. In this episode I briefly discuss playing RPGs solo and go into detail about the Mythic RPG ruleset which can be used with any other RPG system to play adventures without a GM or stand-alone to create a home brew adventure, in any genre you can imagine, just using the Mythic rules. 1P 011 - D-Day Dice
Wednesday Nov 30, 2011
Wednesday Nov 30, 2011
This episode should have been the solo RPG episode but Real Life has gotten in the way of that in a BIG way. Instead, this episode is on D-Day Dice. The co-operative dice game about WW II. If you haven't heard about this game yet, check it out and try out the Print and Play version. If you like it, hop on over to Kickstarter and back this project. Welcome to episode 9. In this show I talk about playing multiplayer games alone. I discuss a bit about some of the benefits and drawbacks of it. Then, I go into more detail about my experience while playing Men of Iron, Volume 1: The Rebirth of Infantry by Richard H. Berg and published by GMT in 2005. I also very briefly talk about the games being released at Essen this year which support playing solitaire. Essen is just a week away at this point and many if these games will be available at local retailers in the next month or two.

1P 008 - Sherlock Holmes, Consulting Detective
Sunday Sep 18, 2011
Sunday Sep 18, 2011
Finally another episode! In this show I talk about game books such as the Choose Your Own Adventure series and Fighting Fantasy Game books. I also give a pseudo-review of Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective. This game is about to be re-published in French and might be of interest to listeners. Audio quality issues still hound me. This episode is quieter than most, except for the really loud dice rolls. Sorry about those. Other than that, it does seem to be more consistent. Anyway, here are some links that might be interesting. Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective on BGG. Demian's Gamebooks website is the most comprehensive place to get info on gamebooks. The Solosaurus blog which is so far mostly about one person's experience with playing solitaire RPGs.

He has designed quite a few solitaire variants that have been posted on BGG. SoloPlay variants on the Geek

1P 006 - Outdoor Survival
Sunday Aug 07, 2011
Sunday Aug 07, 2011
Episode 6 is finally available. It's only a week late. This episode is about experience games. I define those as games where playing is more abut the experience and story the game provides than it is about winning or losing. I first talk a little bit about dungeon crawlers and the review Outdoor Survival. This game is both despised and beloved. In both cases, I think, because the gameplay is so bad. However, if you start a game of Outdoor Survival with that in mind you'll find the experience more fun for it. Finally, I have a small contest in which you can win a copy of Onirim if you upload an Outdoor Survival scenario to BGG. Having taken 3 weeks to get this episode out, I think I like that time frame. It gives me enough time to play games between shows. In the near future, I may try and slow down my publishing rate a bit. Outdoor Survival on BGG

1P 005 - Ricochet Robot
Sunday Jul 17, 2011
Sunday Jul 17, 2011
In this episode, I talk about puzzle games, dexterity games, ThinkFun puzzles and Ricochet Robot. After briefly describe puzzle and dexterity games I talk about a number of puzzles published by Binary Arts. These are very color plastic puzzles. They design lots of stuff for kids but many of the puzzles are great for just about everyone. My 3 year old enjoys them as much as I do. I review Ricochet Robots, it's sort of a party maze game for folks that like puzzles. Ricochet Robot on Board Game Geek. ThinkFun's website

1P 004 - Luna
Sunday Jul 03, 2011
Sunday Jul 03, 2011
Episode 4 of the 1 Player podcast is on games designed for 1 or more players. These are games which are competitive and usually have players vying for the high score at the end of the game. Many of these games work for solitaire play because they have limited interaction. In this episode not only do I review Luna: In the Domain of the Moon Priestess, but I also talk about the Harvest Trilogy by Uwe Rosenberg. The Harvest Trilogy consists of the three games Agricola, Le Havre, and At the Gates of Loyang. Luna on BGG. Harvest Trilogy on BGG.

Sunday Jun 19, 2011
Sunday Jun 19, 2011
Episode 3 of the 1 Player podcast is all about co-operative games. First I go the timeline of co-operative games starting way back in 1979. I make one glaring mistake during this segment but manage to correct myself later in the show. See if you can find it before I do. Finally, I review Lord of the Rings by Reiner Knizia & Lord of the Rings: The Card Game by Nate French. Lord of the Rings on BGG. Lord of the Rings: The Card Game on BGG.

1P 002 - Field Commander: Alexander
Saturday Jun 04, 2011
Saturday Jun 04, 2011
This episode of the 1 Player Podcast includes a list of some solitaire gaming resources and a (one sided) discussion about true solitaire games and their mechanics. Also, Field Commander: Alexander, by Dan Verssen and published by DVG is also reviewed in more detail. It just occurred to me that noticeably absent from the list of resources are any websites or programs used to play boardgames on the computer... doh!
