1 Player Podcast

Episode 6 is finally available. It's only a week late. This episode is about experience games. I define those as games where playing is more abut the experience and story the game provides than it is about winning or losing. I first talk a little bit about dungeon crawlers and the review Outdoor Survival. This game is both despised and beloved. In both cases, I think, because the gameplay is so bad. However, if you start a game of Outdoor Survival with that in mind you'll find the experience more fun for it. Finally, I have a small contest in which you can win a copy of Onirim if you upload an Outdoor Survival scenario to BGG. Having taken 3 weeks to get this episode out, I think I like that time frame. In this episode, I talk about puzzle games, dexterity games, ThinkFun puzzles and Ricochet Robot. After briefly describe puzzle and dexterity games I talk about a number of puzzles published by Binary Arts. These are very color plastic puzzles. They design lots of stuff for kids but many of the puzzles are great for just about everyone. My 3 year old enjoys them as much as I do. Episode 4 of the 1 Player podcast is on games designed for 1 or more players. These are games which are competitive and usually have players vying for the high score at the end of the game. Many of these games work for solitaire play because they have limited interaction. In this episode not only do I review Luna: In the Domain of the Moon Priestess, but I also talk about the Harvest Trilogy by Uwe Rosenberg. Episode 3 of the 1 Player podcast is all about co-operative games. First I go the timeline of co-operative games starting way back in 1979. I make one glaring mistake during this segment but manage to correct myself later in the show. See if you can find it before I do. This episode of the 1 Player Podcast includes a list of some solitaire gaming resources and a (one sided) discussion about true solitaire games and their mechanics. Also, Field Commander: Alexander, by Dan Verssen and published by DVG is also reviewed in more detail. It just occurred to me that noticeably absent from the list of resources are any websites or programs used to play boardgames on the computer... doh!
